Brief Introduction
The Professional Development Center is an academic and administrative unit established within the organizational structure of Nimruz University in 1403 (Solar Hijri). It operates with the purpose of planning, organizing, and managing programs aimed at enhancing the academic and professional capacity of academic staff, leadership, and administrative personnel.
Background
In Afghanistan’s higher education system, Professional Development Centers were established in 1396 (Solar Hijri) based on the Ministry of Higher Education’s five-year strategic plan and with the support of the World Bank’s Higher Education Development Program (HEDP) for 12 central and zonal universities. Subsequently, all higher education institutions across Afghanistan gradually incorporated this center into their academic and administrative structures.
The Professional Development Center of Nimruz University was also established for the first time in 1396 (Solar Hijri) within this institution.
Mission
To provide appropriate opportunities and grounds for the professional growth and capacity building of the academic staff, leadership, and administrative personnel of Nimruz University.
Specific Objectives of the Professional Development Center
- Conducting accurate needs assessments and prioritizing academic and professional capacity-building programs;
- Preparing an organized annual operational plan;
- Implementing capacity-building programs based on the operational plan;
- Continuously monitoring and evaluating the implementation, effectiveness, and quality of capacity-building programs;
- Preparing and submitting quarterly and annual reports to the university presidency and the Directorate of Academic Appointment and Promotion;
- Conducting required capacity-building programs in coordination with the internal departments of the institution.

Holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Post-Baccalaureate certificate in Administration and Management.
Achievements (Up to the End of 1404 Solar Hijri)
- Establishment of the Professional Development Center;
- Accurate identification and needs assessment of capacity-building programs;
- Drafting, proposing, and cooperating in the implementation of specific directives;
- Conducting 12 academic and professional capacity-building programs;
- Purchasing and storing instructional videos for SPSS, Windows, Word, and Excel on the university computer lab systems;
- Establishing communication with Professional Development Centers of neighboring provincial institutions;
- Reviewing and submitting the revised job description of the Professional Development Center;
- Introducing academic staff members for presenting academic conferences;
- Conducting a three-day international online workshop on research methodology;
- Organizing a program on the Prophet’s (PBUH) teaching methods;
- Inviting and hosting senior academic staff from various universities;
- Conducting scientific and research programs in cooperation with independent research institutions;
- Identifying, assessing, and following up on the center’s essential needs;
- Visiting Professional Development Centers of other universities for experience sharing;
- Reviewing and implementing the “Best Course Policy” competitive proposal.

- Establishing a Professional Development Board;
- Conducting needs assessments for required capacity-building programs for academic staff;
- Identifying and assessing needs for the 1405 Solar Hijri fiscal year;
- Securing financial commitments for capacity-building programs;
- Appointing trainers from among the university’s academic staff;
- Appointing master trainers from among the academic staff;
- Conducting 15 capacity-building programs;
- Expanding academic cooperation with public and private higher education institutions;
- Inviting senior academic staff from public and private universities.
